Collins Lake has been closed for swimming since the flooding from tropical storm Irene. The village of Scotia has tried various remedies to make the lake available for swimming again. At this point they have been told that there is nothing else that can be done. They will not be able to open the lake for swimming for years, if ever. For this reason, the Scotia-Glenville Lions are raising money to build a splash pad in Collins Park similar to the one pictured above. A kick-off announcement article is in the June 18th Schenectady Gazette on page C2. We are kicking off our campaign at the village car show on Father’s day by selling tickets for a car raffle. We will also be selling tickets in Collins Park before the July 4th fireworks celebration and before the Lion’s sponsored Freedom Park concert on July 6th. We are working with Morris Ford. The person with the winning raffle ticket will receive a $23,600 credit towards purchasing a car at Morris Ford or $15,000 cash. Tickets are $20 or 3 for $50. No more than 3000 tickets will be sold.
We are also accepting donations. There will be a circle of bricks around the splash pad. Donor’s will be acknowledged by having a brick engraved with their name.
